Kelley Lee

Kelley Lee is an affiliate investigator with BCCDC and an assistant professor at the SFU Faculty of Health Sciences.

Research

Dr. Lee's research focuses on collective action to address transboundary health risks including major infectious disease outbreaks. She led the Global Tobacco Control Research Programme at LSHTM and SFU which secured millions of pages, and conducted extensive analyses of, internal documents of the tobacco industry.  She continues to analyze the commercial determinants of health, serving as a member of the WHO Expert Group and Editorial Board for the forthcoming Global Report on the Economic and Commercial Determinants of Health; and briefing the BC Ministry of Health.

 Her current research focuses on pandemic prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.  She also head the Pandemics and Borders Project which analyses the use of travel measures during public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.  She is also the Co-Director of the Bridge Research Consortium to support Canada's Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub (CIEBH).

Bio

Dr. Lee is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Global Health Governance in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University.  She was previously Professor of Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where she co-directed the WHO Collaborating Centre on Global Change and Health.  Her current leadership roles include co-chairing a Royal Society of Canada-Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Expert Panel on Canada's Role in Global Health; Commissioner on the National University of Singapore-Lancet PRIME Commission.  She is a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and Royal Society of Canada.  She has published 15 books, 250+ papers and 70 book chapters including co-editing the Oxford Handbook of Global Health Politics (OUP, 2020).
