Laboratory confirmation of infection in a patient with or without clinical illness:
- Isolation of Cryptococcus from any body site AND
- Confirmation of C. gattii species on isolates by restricted fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) or polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
