Rebecca Hasdell is the lead for Health Equity and Determinants of Health for Population and Public Health at BCCDC. She is also an adjunct professor in UBC’s Northern Medical Program.
Dr. Hasdell conducts applied, interdisciplinary research on the population and public health effects of policies and programs that address structural and social determinants of health, with a focus on income supports, food security, and neighbourhood environments.
Dr. Rebecca Hasdell (she/her) is the lead for Determinants of Health and Health Equity in Population and Public Health (PPH) at BCCDC, adjunct faculty in UBC's Northern Medical Program, and a research advisor with Stanford's Basic Income Lab. Dr. Hasdell holds a PhD and MPH in social and behavioural sciences from the University of Toronto, and a BA from the University of Calgary. She supports knowledge generation, synthesis and translation activities to integrate health equity and determinants of health into policy and practice across BC's public health system.
Prior to her current position, she has held competitively funded applied research fellowships, and senior policy roles in municipal and federal government. Her research has examined how social and economic determinants produce and can respond to health inequities, with a specific interest in evidence syntheses, policy evaluation and the governance of intersectoral policy.
