Jia Hu

Jia Hu is a public health physician and the medical lead of the prevention and health promotion team within Population and Public Health at BCCDC. He is also a clinical instructor at the UBC School of Population & Public Health.

Research

Dr. Hu's research interests include social determinants of health, housing and health, climate change and health, food security, mental wellness, and cancer prevention and screening. He has also worked extensively in behaviour change and marketing, particularly in the context of public health interventions like vaccinations and cancer screening.

Bio

Jia Hu is a public health physician and lead of the prevention and health prevention team within BCCDC's Population and Public Health Service, which covers a wide range of topics including social determinants of health, housing and health, climate change and health, food security, mental wellness, and cancer prevention and screening.

Dr. Hu completed his medical training at the University of Alberta. He completed residency training in family medicine and public health and preventive medicine at the University of Toronto, during which time he completed a Masters of Science in Health Policy, Planning, and Finance at the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Following residency, he worked at McKinsey, advising large organizations on an array of health-related issues, worked as a Medical Officer of Health in Alberta where he helped lead many elements of the COVID-19 response, and founded and led a public health not-for-profit aimed at increasing uptake of preventive health behaviours.
