Angela Yao is a Senior Scientist at the Environmental Health Services at BCCDC, leading the Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Program. She is also an adjunct professor at the School of Population & Public Health at UBC.
Dr. Yao's research focus on the environmental health, specifically population health impacts of climate change related hazards, including wildfire smoke, extreme temperature and other weather events.
Dr. Yao was trained as an environmental epidemiologist, and received her doctoral
degree in 2019 from the School of Population and Public Health, UBC. She worked
as an Environmental Health Scientist at the Environmental Health Services (EHS)
at BCCDC between 2013 and 2020. Then she joined the Observatory for Population
and Public Health as a Regional Epidemiologist based at Fraser Health, and
supported provincial and regional responses to the COVID-19 pandemic with data
and analytics. She returned to EHS in 2023 as a Senior Scientist, focusing on
research and surveillance to support climate change adaptation in public health.
