Heather Palis

Dr. Heather Palis is a senior scientist in Harm Reduction and Substance Use Services at BCCDC. She is also an assistant professor in UBC School of Population and Public Health.

Research

Dr. Heather Palis leads a program of research focused on examining the effectiveness of harm reduction and substance use services to inform the overdose public health emergency response in BC. Dr. Palis also conducts research on pharmacological treatment of opioid and stimulant use disorders.

Bio

Dr. Palis holds an MSc and PhD in Population and Public Health from the School of Population and Public Health at UBC. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and at the BCCDC funded by the UBC Institute of Mental Health's Marshall Fellowship, a Health Research BC Trainee Award, and a CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship. This research was focused on examining overdose risk and access to health and substance use services among people released from provincial correctional centres in BC.

Currently, Dr. Palis is a senior scientist with the Harm Reduction and Substance Use Services team in the Population and Public Health Service Line at the BCCDC. In this role, she leads research using linked administrative health data to study the implementation of harm reduction and substance use treatment interventions to inform the overdose public health emergency response in BC.
