The HIV testing course is a self-directed online course designed for testing providers who will be involved in one or more aspects of HIV testing, prevention, and follow-up services.
The goals of the HIV Testing Online Course are to:
- provide the foundation for testing pr oviders to completely provide HIV testing services in their communities.
- enhance knowledge around HIV prevention and testing strategies, services and resources
The HIV Testing Online Course is offered as a 4-5 hour self-directed online course accessible on PHSA LearningHub.

Module 1 - The Virus and the Impact of HIV: reviews HIV as a pathogen and disease and describes the impacts of HIV prevention and treatment.

Module 2 - HIV Tests: reviews the HIV testing options available in BC and provides an overview of the differences, strengths and limitations of each test.

Module 3 - Working with Populations: explores the population and public health frameworks for addressing HIV, and approaches to offering HIV testing in different contexts.

Module 4 - HIV Testing Discussions:reviews key elements in HIV testing discussions required to achieve informed consent, provie results to HIV tests, and follow up with HIV positive results.

Module 5 - Partner Follow up: describes the principles of partner follow up and notification.
A certificate of completion is available to learners who have completed all course requirements.
