Hasina Samji is an epidemiologist and senior scientist for Population Mental Health and Wellbeing at BCCDC. She is also an assistant professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University.
Dr. Samji has been on the forefront of HIV and hepatitis C research over the past ten years, and is a co-investigator on the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort. She now leads research on population mental health and well-being, with a focus on intersectoral collaborations to identify and address early drivers of risk and resilience among young people. She is the director of the Capturing Health and Resilience Trajectories Lab (chartlab.ca) and an affiliate investigator with BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, the Canadian HIV Trials Network, and the Human Early Learning Partnership.
Dr. Samji received her PhD from the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she also completed her MSc. She received a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Association for HIV Research in 2011 and a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2015.
She has received funding from CIHR, SSHRC and the BC Children's Hospital Foundation to launch the Youth Development Instrument (YDI), a provincial youth well-being monitoring tool; to co-lead the Personal Impacts of COVID-19 Survey (PICS); and to lead provincial conversations to improve youth mental health.
