David McVea is a senior scientist and a public health physician at BCCDC, specializing in Environmental Health. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the UBC School of Population and Public Health.
Dr. McVea conducts research into a range of environmental health factors. Areas of interest include the health impact of radon exposure in British Columbia, the use of poison-centre data for public health surveillance, environmental health impacts of the toxic drug crisis, and the use of wastewater for surveillance of population health.
Dr. McVea completed a BSc and an MSc, both in Neuroscience, at the University of Alberta. He completed combined medical training and PhD training at the University of British Columbia, where his PhD was again in Neuroscience. He was trained as a specialist in Public Health and Preventative Medicine at the University of British Columbia, and completed a Masters in Public Health as part of this training.
Before joining the BCCDC, he was a member of the Public Health Agency of Canada Field Epidemiology program.
