Dr. Chelsea Himsworth is a veterinary pathologist and epidemiologist. She is the BC Deputy Chief Veterinarian and BC Regional Director for the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative. She is also an affiliate investigator with BCCDC.
Dr. Himsworth's research and practice is focused on transdisciplinary, One Health approaches to health issues at the interfaces among humans, animals, and the environment. She is particularly interested in developing and implementing novel genomics tools for the surveillance and investigation of emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases. Her work with the BCCDC included One Health surveillance of avian influenza virus, SARS-CoV-2, and Salmonella spp., as well as the creation of One Health laboratory and response capacity in BC.
Dr. Chelsea Himsworth received her DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, before staying on to complete a Masters of Veterinary Science and Senior Residency in Anatomic Pathology with a Wildlife Health focus. She went on to achieve Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists before completing her PhD in the School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia.
